Yosemite crashes

I upgraded from 10.8.5 to 10.2 yesterday, now my MacBook Pro crashes. I would say, every 1-2 hours I get a dark screen, then a message that the computer has to be restarted... EtreCheck says:

Hello!

You have a lot of USB-devices connected to your Mac. Test with these disconnected.

M-Audio Fast Track C600

Canon CanoScan

Mitsumi Electric Hub in Apple Extended USB Keyboard

Mitsumi Electric Apple Extended USB Keyboard

Apple Computer, Inc. IR Receiver

Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad

Apple Inc. BRCM20702 Hub

Apple Inc. Bluetooth USB Host Controller

Western Digital Ext HDD 1021 2 TB

EFI (disk3s1) <not mounted> : 210 MB

Boot OS X (disk3s3) <not mounted> : 134 MB

TimeMachine alternativ (disk4) /Volumes/TimeMachine alternativ : 2.00 TB (235.45 GB free)

Encrypted AES-XTS Unlocked

Core Storage: disk3s2 2.00 TB Online

Apple Inc. FaceTime HD Camera (Built-in)

Also, you have a boatload of non-original kernel extensions, each one of them could cause the issue in theory. I advise to take the easy route first and test with disconnected USB devices. If that doesn't solve it we can always look at the kernel extensions.

Continuing:

You have many, many lauchagents, which are applications that start when you log in to your computer. You should try starting your computer to safe mode in addition to the USB-unplugging: OS X: What is Safe Boot, Safe Mode? - Apple Support

If you're getting kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report, not in an "etrecheck" report.

These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

In the Console window, select

DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION System Diagnostic Reports

(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View Show Log List

from the menu bar.

There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.

If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.

In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)

Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.

I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

If you run EtreCheck as an administrator user, it should include a list of panic reports. You can click on the "Details" link next to one of them to see the content and copy and paste it into this thread.

Always use a vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Never try to manually delete files. Never use an "app zapper" or similar. That advice is doubly-true when kernel extensions are involved.

Considering that your panic involves USB, try uninstalling the Avid Fastback C600 driver or whatever software installed it. That is almost certainly the cause of your problem. Then, run the system for a few days to make sure the problem is resolved. If so, maybe look for an updated driver. If not, post an update here. The next most likely candidates would be the Paceap anti-theft software and maybe the Digidesign software.

One of the primary causes of kernel panics is a hardware failure. Your goal at this point is to uninstall any potential software causes of a panic. If you do that, and you still have panics, you need to take the machine in to Apple. You want to find that out sooner, rather than later, so your warranty is still in force.

Happened again, with nothing on USB-port.... I think I make a clean install next week...

You may not need to have any USB device plugged in. One of those extensions (com.avid.usb.fasttrackC600.driver) will be running all the time regardless.

You may want to consider rolling back to Mavericks. Lots of your software does not seem to be compatible with Yosemite. Yosemite does not support the old "Startup Items". Those have been obsolete for almost a decade now.

That would probably be a good idea. You have an awful lot of older, low-level software. You can erase the disk and reinstall the OS. Then, use "Migration Assistant" to migrate only your user documents. For any applications, make sure to get the latest version and make sure it is compatible with your version of the OS.

As for your third-party SSD, don't worry about it. You have the same Samsung 840 EVO that probably a million other Mac users have. I have the 500 GB version in my 2011 MacBook Pro. It runs great. You do want the firmware update, if you haven't already applied it. That will just prevent the drive from getting slower with time. There are no crashing problems involved.

Similar problem with my iMac (Yosemite up to date re picture below).

The iMac will work fine for, say, a week and then will wake from sleep unexpectedly and fan will start whirring like mad and the image below (folder with question mark will be displayed). No other means of stopping whirring than hard reboot.

Any idea?

No third party hardware, no unofficial software, no tampering.

Note: iMac is a refurbished job purchased last October and works very well otherwise
