Q: iPad stopped uploading hotos to Shared Album and I can't delete empty shared album

Hello, community. I need help with my iPad.

As of one week ago I am unable to upload any pictures from my iPad to any Shared Album using iCloud. I do this often, and I can still upload from my iPhone to the same shared album.

I have gone as far as resetting the iPad to a new device and installing a backup, but this did not solve the issue.

My iPad is an ipad with retina display (the first model which came out, but I don't know what generation), and it is running IOS 8.1.3. The problem was happening even from before the update.

The other problem I have is my Shared photos have an album called "Family", and no matter how I try, I can't delete it. I tried from my PC, from the iPhone, and from the iPad, and I can't delete it even though I am the Owner/Creator.

Any ideas on how to resolve these two problems would be greatly appreciated, because when I call Apple Support they want to charge me

    Hi Pablo@CA,

It sounds like you have Family Sharing set up on your iPad.  This automatically creates a shared album that can only be used by your family members.  Take a look at this information and let us know if this is the shared album you are referring to.

    Apple - iOS 8 - Family Sharing
    https://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/

Family Sharing is a new way to bring harmony to your family’s digital life. Up to six people in your family can share purchases from iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store without sharing accounts. Pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device. Easily share photos, a family calendar, and more to help keep everyone connected.

The whole family can contribute to the family photo album.

Family Sharing makes collecting and sharing family memories easier and more fun. It automatically sets up a shared family album where you can contribute photos, videos, and comments. And everything stays up to date on everyone’s devices. So you’re all a tap away from the latest vacation shots, birthday highlights, and family pranks.

    Thank you, Judy.

This does answer the second part of my question. I did just enable Family Sharing.

If any other member can still help me with the bigger problem of not being able to upload or create albums from the iPad, I would appreciate it.

    Cheers!

    Hi Pablo@CA,

When you look at your iCloud settings on the iPad, are you using the same Apple ID as the iCloud account on your iPhone?

Are you able to create a new shared album from your iPad?

iCloud Photo Sharing FAQ - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202786

What do I need to use iCloud Photo Sharing?

To use iCloud Photo Sharing, you need an iCloud account (Apple ID), compatible devices, and up-to-date software:

    • iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iOS 7 or later
    • Mac using OS X Mavericks v10.9 or later and either iPhoto 9.5 or Aperture 3.5
    • Apple TV with Apple TV software 6.0 or later
    • PC using Windows 7 or later and iCloud for Windows 4.0 (or iCloud Control Panel 3.1 or later)

If you enabled the Public Website option when you set up your shared album, your friends and family can view your photos and videos from any current web browser using a link that you provide.

Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices.

How do I turn on iCloud Photo Sharing?

After you update your devices and set up your iCloud account, it’s easy to turn on iCloud Photo Sharing on any of your devices:

    • iOS device: Go to Settings > iCloud > Photos and turn on iCloud Photo Sharing.
    • Mac:
      1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences.
      2. Click iCloud, then select Photos.
      3. Turn on Photo Sharing in one of these applications:
        • iPhoto: Choose iPhoto > Preferences. Click iCloud, then select Photo Sharing.
        • Aperture: Choose Aperture > Preferences. Click iCloud, then select Photo Sharing.
    • Apple TV: Go to Settings > iCloud > iCloud Photos Settings and turn on Photo Sharing.
    • PC: Open iCloud for Windows 4.0 (or iCloud Control Panel) and select Photos. Click the Options button to verify that iCloud Photo Sharing is on and adjust the settings. Click Apply when you're done.

How do I create a shared album?

Creating a shared album is as easy as selecting the photos and videos you'd like to share from a compatible device, then selecting the people with whom you'd like to share. Invitations to your shared album can be sent to a person’s email address or a phone number used for iMessage. Learn more about creating a shared album.

Can I share with people who don't use iCloud?

Yes. If you enable Public Website in the settings for your shared album, your photos will be published to a website that anyone can view in an up-to-date web browser. Learn more about inviting people to view your shared album.

If the issue still exists on your iPad after confirming these settings and trying to create a new shared album, you may need to speak with one of our telephone technical advisors.  Click on the link below to initiate that conversation:
