Q: I want to get an Apple ID for my child.

I want my child to have a separate Apple ID. Is this possible?

I also want to fund it by using iTunes Cards to limit just what they can spend of my money.

Mac mini (Early 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.1)

Update to Yosemite and then use Family Sharing

This updating is not an option. Mavericks supports my two expensive HP printers. I seriously doubt that Yosemite will.

Just note that you have to specify a birthdate that results in being at leas 13 years old for a regular ID

1. I created mine almost twenty years ago. It's a .mac That is why I asked. Still unclear about this item.

Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
Creating an iTunes Store, App Store, iBookstore, and Mac App Store account without a credit card
