Have strange bug on iPhone 4s (bug type 110)

I want to give as much detail as I can, because I feel that I've been stuck with this for a week now, and I don't know what to do.

I have an iPhone 4s running iOS 8.1.2

This phone was my brothers for about 1 and a half or so, and I've now had it for about 4 months (so it's safe to assume it's out of warranty). Had no problems with it at all. Neither of us had.

I've never dropped my phone, never put it in water, never done anything wrong with it. But early last week my Phone crashed (turned itself off). I thought maybe I was using it too much, and had too many apps open. So I put it down for the night. The next day, I turned it on and the Apple logo cam up as normal, but it shut itself off. Then it tried to turn itself on again (back to the Apple logo screen).

I didn't know what was going on, so I plugged it into my iTunes. It was fixed (or so I thought). It turned on. Great!. Later that day, it happened again, it crashed (turned itself off). But it was worse. It was stuck in this loop for a while. So I plugged it into my iTunes again but it didn't work. I restored my iPhone back to iOS 8.1.2 and restored all my content.

This has happened a few times now, and I'm sick of trying to fix it.

Since I've restored my iPhone a few times, I doubt the problem is to do with the software. (Unless it's to do with 8.1.2)

I don't know.

I assume everybody has lost interest, but that's okay. I'm still going to keep everyone updated in case someone has the same issue and stumbles upon this.


So I went to Ireland's version of an Apple store. Not helpful. Told me to update to iOS 8.1.3 and that they don't do repairs there.

So I'm going to update my phone now and I'll post again later

  • Because there are over a billion Apple products in regular use. Can you imagine sorting the email from from even a small fraction of these users? And actually, Apple does have email contacts, but not for tech support. They DO have chat line support, telephone support, in-person support at genius bars in Apple stores and this user-helping-user Apple Support Community. As well as thousands of Knowledge Base articles accessible at apple.com/support.
  • I didn't see anything personal. But I also didn't see anything useful, except to Apple. If you had "send diagnostics" enabled they have gotten a copy of the panic log.
  • This category ("using iPhone") is fine. "iPhone hardware" would work also. But anything with 'iPhone" in it will be seen by the active members.


I'll also mention that you did the right thing putting a description of the problem in the subject. That helps filter it to the right people.


And deggie's question is the right direction. Most likely your phone has a hardware problem, and he's trying to narrow down the options.

It may be. Make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store and have them check it.


Okay. I'll look into it. That wasn't my first option because I think I know what they're going to do.

I feel like they're going to ask me how long I've had it.

It'll be out of warranty.

They'll send it away

I'll have to pay 50 quid

And I won't find out how I got the problem


I live in Dublin by the way, don't actually think we have a genius bar. We have Apple stores alright.



Will I have to pay if it's not covered by the warranty?

That's one option, but we get posts regularly from people who replaced the battery themselves, and broke the phone in the process. It isn't something for the average user to do; Apple's view is that there are no user-serviceable parts in an iPhone. DIY also eliminates any chance of in or out of warranty service on the phone, as Apple will not touch any iPhone that has been opened. Apple will replace the battery for free if the phone is still in warranty, and for $79 out of warranty. I realize that's more than a DIY repair, but it includes a new 90 day warranty and allows you to continue getting Apple support.

If you have an Apple Store you have a Genius Bar. Use of the Genius Bar is free. They will check the phone and give you the results. If the phone has a kaput battery they will offer to replace it for the equivalent of $79 USD. If it is other hardware damage they will do an out-of-warranty replacement for the equivalent of $149 USD. There will be a 90 day warranty following either choice.


If you choose to buy a battery and put it in yourself just get it back from them and do so. Keep in mind if it turns out it is not the battery you will no longer be eligible for an out-of-warrany replacement.

We do have different types of Apple stores here but that doesn't matter. I can go in and talk to them about it.


But do we even know if it is the battery that's the problem?

I put bug type 110 because I thought that would be a good "keyword" will searching, I thought it could be important.

I did a little google-ing of "bug type 110" and I've found nothing conclusive. And they're isn't much information online about it (or at least, not that I've found)
