Calendar entries made on Mac don't appear on iPhone (but works other way round!)

For some weeks now I have had a problem with calendar entries made on MacBook Air not syncing to my iPhone 4S. But it works fine the other way round, i.e entries made on iPhone appear instantly on MacBook. HOWEVER, if I subsequently add another calendar entry to the iPhone, all of the 'missing entries', previously made on MacBook, suddenly appear on the iPhone! 😕

I have tried all of the suggestions, many times, on other posts and on the Apple Support site for checking that both devices connected to internet; iCloud preferences ticked to show calendar; etc. So if anyone has any idea of what is happening and how I can resolve this I would be very grateful! I fear I may have to add dummy calendar entries to iPhone every day just to ensure I am picking everything up. 😟

Regards, Ann.

Good day Annie1904,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

If calendar entries are not syncing from your MacBook Pro to your iPhone, checking your internet connection and iCloud settings are good troubleshooting steps.

Since the issue is continuing, make sure to go through all of these troubleshooting steps from the article below:

iCloud: Troubleshooting iCloud Calendar - Apple Support

Try each of these steps, testing after each to see if the issue is resolved:

  • Make sure that you are using OS X Lion v10.7.5 or later. Learn how to verify the version of OS X you are using.
  • Make sure your computer is online. Attempt to view www.apple.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud calendars and events will not update in Calendar or iCal. Learn how to troubleshoot your Internet connection.
  • Open a secure website to test if ports 80 and 443 are accessible. Calendar requires port 443 access to iCloud in order to push and fetch updates to and from the iCloud Calendar servers.
  • Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then click the icon for iCloud. Make sure that you're signed in to the same iCloud account that you're using on your other supported devices.
  • Make sure that you enter and update calendar information in the iCloud section of Calendar or iCal. Only calendars and events in the iCloud section of the Calendar or iCal Calendar list are updated in iCloud. Both Calendar and iCal for Mac support the display of and interaction with multiple accounts and datastores, such as iCloud, On My Mac, Exchange, and Google. This makes it easy to create or modify events or calendars in a section of Calendar or iCal that may not be updating iCloud. Learn more about moving local calendars to iCloud.
    • In some cases, you may find that you have data duplicated in both the local On My Mac and the iCloud sections of Calendar or iCal. Learn more about resolving this issue.
    • You can make the iCloud calendar your default calendar for all new events. In Calendar, choose Calendar > Preferences, then click General. In iCal, choose iCal > Preferences, then click General. Locate the Default Calendar setting and choose one of the Calendars under the iCloud heading. Close the Preferences window to save the change.
  • If recent changes don't appear, try forcing Calendar to refresh by selecting Refresh Calendars from the View menu. In iCal, select Refresh or Refresh All from the Calendar menu.
  • If you've recently made changes to your contacts' birthdays and are not seeing those changes reflected in your Birthdays Calendar, try to refresh your calendars. If you made the changes in the Contacts app on an iOS device or at iCloud.com, it may take up to an hour for those changes to appear on your other devices.
  • Make sure that your account was successfully created in Calendar (or iCal) on your Mac. After upgrading to iCloud Calendar, you may need to quit and reopen Calendar (or iCal). To confirm that your account is configured correctly in Calendar (or iCal):
    1. Open Calendar (or iCal).
    2. Open Calendar (or iCal) Preferences.
    3. Click Accounts. You should see an account with your iCloud member name in the Apple ID field.
  • Turn iCloud Calendars off and back on:
    1. Quit Calendar (or iCal).
    2. ChooseApple () menu > System Preferences, then select iCloud.
    3. Deselect the checkbox next to Calendars (or Calendars & Reminders in Mountain Lion and Lion).
    4. Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
    5. Open System Preferences and select iCloud.
    6. Replace the checkmark next to Calendars (or Calendars & Reminders in Mountain Lion and Lion).
    7. Close System Preferences.
    8. Open Calendar (or iCal) and test to see if the issue is resolved.
  • Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.

Sincerely,

Jeremy

No, you are not the only one having this problem! I am having the same problem. It started a little while ago. I want to say beginning of January maybe but I'm not sure. I posted something on here but no one replied. I don't know what to do except to always enter calendar events on my iPhone I guess. Very aggravating as it worked like a charm for years.

Let's hope we have more readers, including someone who has the definitive answer, Lisa!

Incidentally, I have previously made a genius appointment at my local Apple store who seemed utterly bemused by the problem. In truth, I felt a little patronised, as I am sure they thought I was just not setting my devices correctly. They suggested doing all of the options on the Apple Support site and sent me to a side table to do it. I declined - been there, done that. I had hoped they would sit with me so that they could see that the process did not work - or I'd even have been happy to accept I'd missed a step. No direct help from Apple, then! Ann.

This is definitely a problem. I'm experiencing the same exact issues plus icloud also bumps me off. I can leave a device and in an hour it is logged off of my iCloud account. iPhones and iPad are syncing to iCloud.com but not to our 3 iMacs. When re-logging in to iCloud after disconnection the user is now prompted with several requests for the password for different modules in iCloud. Yesterday I saved a pages doc to iCloud on an iMac and could not pick it up on my MacBook Pro :-(. With ANY other cloud services that I use IE Box, Dropbox, Google drive, this is never a problem... Your documents are there AND they work. What a screw up this is. I'm almost to the point of dropping iCloud and moving my storage, calendars, contacts and todos to Google. Last week I upgaded to a 6 and 6 plus. Starting to think this was also a mistake. Come on Apple get your ducks in a row! Spent over an hour with apple care support with no results except sending me a ridiculous tech document abou checking my wifi setup?!? Advisor has missed my iMacs and macbookpro are all wired connections and the only devices syncing to iCloud.com are my iOS devices which are on wifi. Just curious are any of the posters having these issues using the family sharing feature? It seems like this all started when I activated family sharing. Grrrrrrrrr.......
