Q: Problem with earphones or earphone jack?

Hi guys,

Alright, so I've had my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Mid 2014) since November and I've started having an issue with the earphone jack already. I have the Apple EarPods. When I listen to music, everything sounds fine for a good fifteen minutes or so and then the sound starts switching from one ear to the other, and if I'm listening to music in a stereo format I'll only be able to hear some of the instruments, but it sounds really tinny and flickery.

When I remove my earphones, there's a brief red light flashing from the earphone jack. I've no other earphones or headphones to use to compare it with, but from what I've explained, does it sound like it could be the earphones or the earphone jack faulting?

Thanks

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

    Howdy ItsMichaeeel,

Yes, it would be nice to have some other headphones or speakers to test with, but maybe this answers the question.  Under "Check your Sound System Preferences pane"

Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs - Apple Support

    4. If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:

    1. Confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.

    2. Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.

    3. If you do not see a red light, proceed to step 5.

    5. If the issues persist, contact Apple support for further troubleshooting assistance.
