Spotlight reindexing will take a while to finish.
System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy

You will see a new category “Other” in the Storage Display.

Note:
If you don’t have Macintosh HD icon on the desktop,
Finder > Preferences > General > Show these items on the desktop:
Enable “Hard disks”.

Jan 29, 2015 6:11 AM in response to dominic23by halittt75,I tried what you have advised me to do but when I booted into safemode my MB was very slow and I couldn't see what 'Other' was in storage. It only displayed the amount of 'Other' and not in parts. I only managed to fix the 23 gb program storage into 20gb Other storage, thank you for that. But I did not manage to clear the question marks in my head about my storage..

It won't show the correct info.
