Usb drive connected to Timecapsule keeps disconnecting Mac10.10.1

I have a Lacie drive connected to the usb port on my Timecapsule. It is barely usable as it will not stay connected. How can I get this usb drive to appear on the desktop at all times?

MacBook Air, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Hi acplaird,

I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your network drive. If you are having intermittent but persistent disconnect issues with the drive connected to your Time Capsule, you may find the information and configurations outlined in the following articles helpful. In particular, if your hard drive has the option for it, make sure that it is connected to an external power sources.
