EarPods differ from each other?

Hi!

In 2012 I bought an iPhone 5 which came with the Apple EarPods. They fitted very well and I really love them.

In 2014 I bought an iPhone 6 which came also with (the same?) new EarPods. Right at the first moment I could feel, that the EarPods felt extremely different than the old ones. The old ones felt more solid and isolated much better than the new ones. The new ones fell like ordinary 50 cents headphones and do not really isolate noise from outside. The old ones felt a bit heavier. The new ones have a cable which is not that sticky as the old ones. The rest is completely identical.

I gave the new ones together with the iPhone 5 to my girlfriend.

After my old EarPods (from iPhone 5) died in this year, I decided to buy some new. The new ones were also definitely from Apple. But they feel the same like the ones which came with the iPhone 6.

I did check all signs of being fake, but they all seem to be original. Especially the fact that the 2. ones came with my original iPhone 6 makes them genuine.

Here are the data from the first and the third EarPods(on the cable):

Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China DTY23453YH64

Designed by Apple in California Assembled in Vietnam DV241236ZAZD

Are there differences between the the production years?

Best regards,

Richard

Yes, Apple changed the design of the earphones they include with the phones. The new ones, the Earpods (I think the old ones were just called earphones) came in with the iPhone 5S, if I recall correctly. They are shaped rather differently. I wouldn't know about differences in the cable as I have disliked both versions and don't use them. The old ones have been discontinued. The ones you bought should recently should look exactly like the ones that came with the iPhone 6 if they are genuine.

From the quick search I did it appeared the EarPods were introduced with the iPhone 5. The pods that came with my 5S don't appear to be any different than the pair that came with the 6. Like yourself I've never used either one of them, or even opened the cases for that matter, so I can't say if there have been any changes made to them since the pods were introduced.

since i lost my 5`s earphones, i had to untie my very new earpods from 6 which i did not intend to use.

i had the exactly same feelings as you!

is there any possibility to get/buy those "old" ones??

I'm sure you can find them on eBay. There are probably lots of people like me who hated them almost as much as the current ones. If you can't find the old style, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of third party earphones available that will work with iPhones.
