Q: iphone 6 IOS 8 and BMW iDrive playback issues

Hi All,

Since Apple updated the operating system to IOS8.1.1 or IOS8.1.2 i have been unable to see any of my track info and control my tracks via my steering wheel buttons. I'm not sure as to which one of the above updates caused the issue as they were both installed at the same time due to me being away when the first one was released. I have had no issues with using my iphone 6 and iDrive prior to these updates and also use Spotify app to play music on the go which worked perfect until the updates. I have confirmed that the issue has to be related to the IOS as i have used my partners phone which is a iphone 6 with the IOS 8.1.0 version on it and it was working fine, i then updated it to the latest firmware at the time 8.1.2 and it had stopped working. I have also tried as many other streaming apps as i can find on the app store to see if it was an issue with spotify and it wont work on any of them. If anyone out there has had the same problem and have managed to fix this or even if Apple can resolve this issue i would very much appreciate it as i do some long distance drives and this feature was very handy.

PS. I cannot stream through BT to my iDrive as i don't have this option as i believe it was only added to the newer BMW's.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hey jj896,

Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your car’s stereo connection to your iPhone 6 after updating your software. The following resource provides applicable troubleshooting information - including isolating the issue (by testing with another car stereo, if available) and restoring your device. However, I’d also like to highlight this section:

Some car stereos can display track information from your device. If your device displays the proper track information but your stereo does not, please contact the stereo manufacturer for additional assistance.

And here is the entire article, with troubleshooting steps included towards the end:

Get help using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with your car stereo - Apple Support

    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203412

    Thanks,

    Matt M.

Hi, thanks for your reply but i have no issue with my car stereo. As stated above i have already tested this with another device with the older version of the IOS and it worked as it always has done, displaying the track details from Spotify, Napster and various other apps. I tried even with another iphone 6 which had not been updated at the time and it worked fine but once i updated it the track info  and steering wheel controls stopped working.

I will have a read through the link you have sent and see what it suggests although on a quick glance it appears that most of the suggestions i have already tried.

    Regards,

    John

I have an iPhone 5c and a new BMW 3 series with SmartPhone integration. I'm having the same issue, since IOS 8.1 the connection is not working.

Well the connection is working and I can select songs from my steering wheel, but it won't press 'play'. I can see the selected song change on my phone, but I have to press 'play' on the iPhone for the music to start....

I am experiencing the same issues with iPhone 5 since upgrading to IOS8. A quick search on google shows that we are not the only one.

iPhone music integration on BMW iDrive over USB has been working fine on my 2013 BMW 3 Touring with the NBT Navigation system, untill I upgraded to IOS8.

I contacted the dealer and they say BMW has no update or solution and Apple is to be blamed since their update broke compatibility

It's a real shame Apple seems to deny reliability and hasnt come up with a fix for this.

Same problem here--this is pretty typical of the relationship between Apple and Car Mfgr.  Maybe it will get fixed, maybe it wont.

It appears not, I use to think Apple were a good company with good products that looks after its customers, Looking of their profits you would think that would be the case. Obviously nobody has any interest in sorting this issue out for us anymore and just want to make headlines of how much money they have made.

I too experienced these problems from iOS 8.1 on (in my 2014 535xd)

It appears that they are all fixed with the iOS 8.3 update!

    Anyone else want to confirm?
