Hi,
I have a strange issue with Mac mini late 2014 and NEC PA272W monitor. Mac mini and the monitor are connected by high quality mini display port cable.
Sometimes on boot the display is reporting: Out of range message H 14,6KHz. Its a sync problem?
Then I have to turn off and on the monitor to restore image.
Any advice to this?

If I understand correctly you cannot see anything other than an error on your monitor when you initially start the computer and need to power cycle your monitor. I would use these steps to troubleshoot the Mac side of the equation:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
- Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
- If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
- If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
- Start up in Safe Mode.
- From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
- Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
- Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
- Restart your computer.

Yes, that's a good description of the situation.
I have tried several ways, but without effect.
This happens very rarely - on boot or when switching monitor off and on.
I suspect that the Mac mini sends the wrong signal, so there is nothing I can do …. :-/
I think I found a solution.
In the configuration of the monitor (NEC PA272W) I have turned off the NEC BOOT screen/logo.
So far the "out of range" error did not come back during the booting process of my Mac mini.

Just a quick update:
Setting the NEC BOOT LOGO to off has solved my problem definitely.
I am wondering what was causing this.
Sadly, this "out of range" problem has re-appeared today :-/

I have Mac mini 2014 with Intel Iris video card. Its connected to Nec PA272W monitor by mini DP cable to mini DP input of the monitor. Res. 2560 x 1440 59,9 Hz.
On some occasions when I turn on my Mac mini or wake it from sleep mode the monitor displays „out of range” error (H 14.6 kHz out of range).
Why the video card is sending only 14.6 kHz for the horizontal refresh rate?
The display is only able to see what the video card is pushing to it. Since I know the display is not having issues when connected to the 2009 Macbook Pro, I would like to know why this new machine is exhibiting this issue with its video output.
It seems to be somehow related to latest efi update.
I have reapplied the firmware upgrade from http://swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/33/25/031-17157/5k6hpmzq78ticvk917gme65 7p9o2kqye8e/FirmwareUpdate.pkg
This is the "cure" for the thunderstrike mac vulnerability.
I did some testing and the "out of range" issue with the monitor seems to be gone for now.
