Q: 10.10.2 broke wifi in OS X (but not win8 in Parallels)

After upgrading from 10.10.1 to 10.10.2, my MacBook Pro connects to my Apple Extreme via Wifi, but not to the Internet. (On a side note, the Extreme also reports not having an Internet connection.)

However, other devices connected to the Extreme via Wifi, do access the Internet (they run Android, iOS and Windows 8). And on the same Mac that can't reach the Internet, I'm running Parallels Desktop with Windows 8 installed, and here I'm getting a good Internet connection (Parallels is running its network adapter in bridged mode, meaning it's visible to the Extreme as a separate machine).

So, despite the Extreme's odd status, the Internet is available to all my devices, but not Mac OS X. Also, the Mac's wifi hardware must be working, since it's good enough for Parallels on the very same machine.

What is it, then, that's causing OS X to not connect to the Internet?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

I'm having the exact same issue right after I updated my MacBook Air mid 2013 to 10.10.2. Th MBA connect to the router, but not to the internet. The connection to the router gets dropped every 30 sec or so. Other devices (iPhone 4s, MacBook Pro still running 10.10.1) have no problem connecting to the Internet.

    Hoping for a fix soon!

I just had this happen to my 2012 MBP-   I was surfing at work, then my connection just stopped.  Looked in the wi-fi preferences window, and I was still connected via 802.1x (work network), but my system was telling me my interface was off.  Couldn't turn it back on. I tried to delete the interface and re-add; Wi-Fi was not available.   I rebooted and zapped the PRAM twice, nothing.   My Wi-Fi icon was showing the X saying no hardware was installed.   My MAC address was 0'd out, and any time I went to look at the hardware tab under advanced properties, System Preferences would tell me there was an issue, and it would crash.   But when I went into my system report, it was still showing my Wi-Fi adapter and all its information.

I then rebooted it again, and went into Safe Mode, same issues.    After I got on a call with Apple they suggested resetting the SMC controller, and that did the trick.

Kinda janky if you ask me.   Now I'm waiting for the deluge of students who updated and can't connect.

Now it works! I installed the 10.10.2 combo update over the 10.10.2 version from app store. That's it. I found it here, http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1786/en_US/OSXUpdCombo10.10.2.dmg (via http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/48498/os-x-yosemite).

(Also, according to Airport Tools, my Extreme is now officially connected to the Internet.)

    Thank you Eric and McBingham!

I tried both your suggestions (SMC reset and combo update), but experience to improvement.

However I just spoke with apple support on the phone, and they told me that in 10.10.2 there are new security features which a probably not supported by my router and that I need to update the firmware in my router. While this sounds plausible, it's bad, bad, bad... Apple is now washing their hands off and saying that they are doing everything right and that some other company is responsible.

    I'm totally frustrated!

After Yosemite 10.10.2, the Wifi at work is so broken that I have to open a Terminal to ping 8.8.8.8 to see if I am still online.

    My Terminal typically looks like:
