Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you want to sync using WiFi but have not used USB to set it up yet. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.
Sync your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch with iTunes using Wi-Fi - Apple Support
Set up syncing
- Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version.
- Connect your iOS device to your computer with the included USB cable.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Have a good one,
Mario

Feb 1, 2015 12:10 PM in response to mario49by PHSpride07,Thank you for the response, but in my post, I stated my USB ports are broken. I have absolutely no way to connect the cable and have the device recognized in iTunes on my MacBook Pro, so I'm trying to see if there are any other ways to wifi sync without that initial USB cable connection.

USB is busted? Just use USB instead!?
You could look for a Thunderbolt to USB connector, assuming the MBP has a Thunderbolt port. Firewire may have similar converters too.
I just do not know if iTunes will fail to work because of the control chips Apple builds into the lightning connector.
I assume you have looked at getting the USB ports fixed? Is it a replacement logic board that is required?

Considering the cost, I'd rather save up for another laptop since this one is already 4 years old and low RAM. I'll definitely look into the Thunderbolt to USB connector, that sounds promising. Thank you!
