Q: iCloud Drive and iPhone - Help!

Hello,

 

I have a collection of photos stored on my icloud drive that are quite specific eg. Holiday 2014. Is there a way to access these photos from my iPhone to show people OR add other photos to the folder from my iPhone, without going to icloud.com?

I have turned photo sharing off, and the pictures and albums were not lost. They are stored on the iCloud server indefinitely.  However, I believe that iCloud data may be removed if the account is inactive for 180 days or more, so just make sure you keep your account signed in!

    Hi CPG88,

     

    You can download a third-party app to add and view files in your iCloud Drive (Apple does not provide a specific app to do this, though their iWork apps can view, edit, and save iWork files stored in iCloud Drive).  However, I think you might have an easier time using iCloud Photo Sharing or iCloud Photo Library rather than iCloud Drive.  With iCloud Photo Sharing you can easily create shareable photo albums that will be stored in iCloud.  These can be shared with other people using iCloud or via a public link (very obscure link that no one will ever guess without you giving it to them) so that people without iCloud accounts can also view them.  Additionally, these photos do not count toward your 5 GB storage limit when they are stored in shared photo albums

    Hi Newbie314,

     

    I agree, I think in this case Photo Sharing is the best option... I just want all my 'stuff' in one place like icloud/pages etc the photos are the last to transfer over from my OneDrive (Outlook). I am just looking for the best option whereby folders don't expire and I can keep a backup/collection of old photos.

    Yep, Photo Sharing sounds like your best bet then!  I recently finished creating albums and uploading all of my old photos for easy access as well!  I love it

    Hi Newbie314,

     

    what device have you uploaded from? iPhone/iPad etc? I can see me downloading the photos from my OneDrive then adding to the icloud sharing facility.

     

    Do you know what space is used? ie.  Do I have to keep ALL my photos on my iphone?

    I uploaded them mostly from my PC, but some from my iPod Touch as well.  With iCloud for Windows you can access and add to your iCloud shared albums. 

     

    You do not need to keep the photos on your phone -- once they are added to a shared stream you will be able to access them through the 'Shared' tab in your Photos app; you can then delete them from the camera roll on the phone.

    Hi Newbie,

     

    have you ever turned off photo sharing? Would you lose all your shared photo albums if you did? Or are they kept on the shared tab until you switch it back on?

    That's a relief, thank you

     

    I near enough sign into my iCloud and will be adding photos etc every day so the 180 days shouldn't be an issue.
