Q: Aperture library so slow. Unusable.

I just bought a new iMac, the latest model.

Im wanting to move my aperture library over to it from my old, 2004 iMac.

I was experiencing very very very slow performance within aperture on my old iMac and even with no library imported the new iMac aperture is equally as slow.

Its made me think the problem is with the software itself and not the computer. iPhoto also takes ages and ages to load and i only have 10 photos in it.

Any advice?

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

This is not a normal experience.  Tell more about your Library, and where it resides.

Which version of Aperture are you using? With Yosemite you should be using Aperture 3.6.

even with no library imported the new iMac aperture is equally as slow.

What do you mean by "no library imported"?  You simply click the library to open it in Aperture, unless you want to merge libraries.

And how much free storage do you have on your new computer?
