How do I transfer "purchased items" from iPhone 5S to iTunes?

When I try to update my iPhone 5S I get the following message:

User uploaded file

It is not apparent which the purchased items are, I can only assume

that it is some of the apps that I recently "purchased" even though

they were free.

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1

Yeah it asks that if you recently bought or updated apps

I would just connect the phone to iTunes and choose back up to this computer option and let it do its thing

I chose backup to iCloud. And when I was done and tried to update the iOS, I got the same message. It took a lot of googling and searching to find the command on a menu (that wasn't displayed initially) until I got this done.

Note to apple programmers. Do something totally simple for the user. When that message box comes up, add one more button that clicking on will initiate the backup. From the number of threads on this forum it appears you will make users quite happy with that simple solution.

How hard can that be?
