i'm trying to fix a problem with ical ("+" button suddenly stopped working). my "lock screen" button has never worked. i have found a few work-arounds to reboot and shut down, but would like to try rebooting in safe mode to fix this ical problem, and can't figure out how to do it without a working power button.
this is an iphone 4, 6GB.

You have a phone that is 4 generations out of date, and that has a hardware problem in addition. It's time to get a new phone. If it is working you can reboot it by going to Settings/General/Reset - Reset Network Settings. This will clear all of your WiFi passwords, re-initialize the network, and force a reboot of the phone, but will not result in lost data.
There is no such thing as "safe mode" on an iOS device. it doesn't exist.
You can force a re-boot by holding the power and home buttons down together until you see the Apple logo if both buttons physically work.
If they don't, make an appointment at the genius bar and have it looked at.

There isn't a safe mode for iOS devices.
There isn't any such thing that Apple calls "safe mode." Perhaps it is some capability that goes by another name.
Ah, I see it's a "feature" of jailbroken phones.
I think you're talking about a reset, or a force reboot. It's not called safe mode. If a normal restart doesn't fix your problems with the Calendar app, a reset won't either.
