How do I access a files metadata?

How do I find and change the metadata in music files? The use of the word "tags" is confusing me. I'm used to being able in Windows to pull up the properties and find the metadata in there. How do I do something like that in Apple?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

I have found that the Applications -> Preview -> Tools -> Show Inspector will display even more image metadata.

Thank you, I had completely overlooked it. Now one last question. How do I enter metadata into a file in Yosemite?

You would need an image editor. I cannot find anything in Preview that will add or change metadata.

iPhoto can add descriptive information and allow you to set GPS location data, for images that do not already include GPS info (stuff taken by cameras without GPS).

I'm not sure if iPhoto can do more, as I have not really tried to change image metadata.

For full access to the metadata you may need to get a 3rd party product, unless someone with a lot more image processing experience has some suggestions.
