unless you enabled FileVault, the stealer can reset the Mac without the iCloud password. So if you didn't enable FileVault, you'll likely never see your mac anymore, neither physically nor on Find my Mac.
There is a Find My Mac application. But it must be turned on before the Mac is stolen. This is completely analogous to Find My iPhone or Find My iPad, which must also be turned on before the device is stolen.
So now that your Mac has been stolen, it's too late. But hopefully you'll turn it on for your replacement Mac.
