    Hi supjohn,

If you're wanting to use the VoiceOver feature on your iPod which will tell you audibly what appears on the screen, then you'll need to use a multi-touch gesture rather than a button combination.  To learn more about using this feature, please see the article linked to below.

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!

    Cheers,

    Alex H.

Thanks for the reply.  However I am not trying to use the voice over accessibility feature but rather the text to speech like feature that gives you the song title and artist as listed in the itunes database.  I discovered that if I sort of quickly roll my thumb over the top and middle buttons on the side of my ipod I can sometimes get a woman's robotic voice that comes in over the music and gives me that song info without having to take the ipod out of my pocket and look at the screen. This is a great feature when jogging as I can satisfy my curiosity without slowing down too much. I think I need to quickly press the top bottom "volume up" button and then the middle "pause/play" button in sequence but not sure as it does not seem to work every time.  So does anyone know the exact button pushing combo that gives this audio song ID info?

    Hello supjohn,

Ah okay, that makes more sense now.  Take a look at the information below.

    • Hear the current track announcement: Press and hold the center button until you hear the current song title and artist name.

If you’re listening to an audiobook, podcast, or iTunes U collection, you hear the book title and author’s name or episode information.

    Take care,

    Alex H.

That's it thanks. Thought I had tried that option but guess I did not hold down long enough.
