Has 8.1.3 Affected My Calls

Hello everyone.

I've not had a problem with my 6+ or other phones, but yesterday I updated to 8.1.3 on my and my wife's 4s and since then my call quality has tanked with calls being missed even though I'm holding the thing, but mostly talking with my wife, every other word is dropped - a la Norman Collier if you're from the UK and old like me 🙂

Any suggestions? Yes, it's been snowing today and it might be coincidence - but it's mighty strange.

Thanks

Andy

Howdy Nobby66,

If I understand correctly you updated both your 6+ and your wifes 4s and the call quality dropped sharply thereafter. I would use these steps specifically on both phones from the following article:

If you can't hear a person on a call or voicemail or if the sound quality is poor on iPhone

  1. Restart your iPhone and test again.
  2. If there's still no sound or poor sound quality, update to the latest version of iOS.

If you've tried these steps and there's still no sound or poor sound quality from your iPhone, contact Apple Support.

Seems a bit simple I know, but the rest of the troubleshooting doesn't seem to apply if this happened after a software update, although they are worth a look over and double check to make sure.

I would also even go as far as backing up and restoring the phone using iTunes before contacting support:

Back up and restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iCloud or iTunes
