Playing Windows media files

For about a decade, Flip4Mac was the (free) way to go to play various Windows media files through QuickTime Player on a Macintosh. (AVIs, WMVs, ASFs, etc.)

But with MacOS 10.9, that link seems to have been broken, according to Apple:

Problem: Flip4Mac is no longer "free". You must now pay for it.

Are there any free alternatives?
