Microsoft Silverlight Plug-In for Netflix

Hello all!

I am new to the Mac and I am questioning every move I make on it. I do not know what to download. I was wanting to watch Netflix but it said I had to download Microsoft Silverlight Plug-In, so I downloaded it, I moved it to my App folder, then pressed Control and clicked on it to open it and I was about to install it (All I had to do was type in my password) and then I searched it up on the internet, and there are mixed reviews.. So, I didn't type in my password, I moved it to the trash.

Questions:

1. Is Microsoft Silverlight safe?

2. Did I download it even if I didn't type in my password?

I want to thank you all in advance!
