Q: Bootcamp 5.1.2 - Unable to download Windows Support Software
Hi All:
I have a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro and I am having problems setting up Boot Camp. When creating a Windows 7 or later version install disk, the status bar stops at about the halfway point and I get the error Unable to download the software because of a network problem.
I tried downloading a copy of Windows 7 x64 ISO and then tried to just Download the latest Windows support software from Apple. Immediately I received the same error, Unable to download the software because of a network problem.
After doing some reading, I figured I would be better manually downloading the Windows Support Software from the site Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640.
I followed the directions from the site below:
• The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it, if it is not automatically uncompressed. DONE
• Double-click the Boot Camp5 folder. DONE
• Copy the entire contents of the .zip file to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system DONE
• When running Windows, locate the Boot Camp folder on the USB media you created in Step 3 and double click to open it. WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHEN RUNNING WINDOWS? HOW DO I RUN WINDOWS BEFORE I HAVE INSTALLED IT?
• Double click on setup to start installing the Boot Camp Support Software. THE ONLY FILE NAMED SETUP IS IN THE FOLDER /disk/bootcampsetup.exe I CAN'T RUN AN .exe FILE ON A MAC
So I next tried to use the Boot Camp software to help me create my install disk. The problem is I don't know how to turn the downloaded file and the Windows 7 iso file into a boot disk for USB. If I select the option to create the install disk, it wants to download the files first; there is no option to select files already downloaded.
First off, are these even the correct files?
Second, Does anyone see a workaround? I do not have my Windows 7 Install disk anymore, but I do have a product key.
