Want To Use D-Link AirPlus G Card DWL-G630 On 500 MHZ Pismo

I bought a D-Link AirPlus G Card DWL-G630 for my work PC, but I want to also use it on my 500 MHZ Pismo. Does anyone know if there is a way to make it work?

styler,

There is only one third-party wireless driver that I am aware of which supports 802.11g PC cards and it is OrangeWare:
http://www.orangeware.com/endusers/wirelessformac.html

Unfortunately, your card is not in the supported list. OrangeWare's driver supports cards that use the Atheros chipset, and apparently your card uses either the Prism or ACX 111. As is often the case, D-Link and others will often switch chipsets yet keep the same model number of the card and give it a revision number.

I am unfamiliar with Windows, but you should be able to find the specs on your wireless card when inserted in the card slot. But unless it has a Ralink or Broadcom (Apple) or Atheros chipset, I don't see how it will work.

Hi Deuce,

The RaLink drivers can be found here: http://www.ralinktech.com/supp-1.htm

They will only work if the DLink product you have is based on their chipset.

The Ralink based card I have works... Apples Airport software does not work with this chipset. You need to use the RaLink control panel. This is a bit of a drag as it lacks the GNU refinement that Apple brings to the mix but it does work with the card I am currently using (cheap card for the old book).

I did some research, and I think I have the Marvell chipset. There are 3 revisions for my card (I have revision C), and apparently at least one has an Atheros chip, but I installed the Orangeware driver and it didn't recognize my card, so I eliminated Atheros. I also found a website that lists cards for different chipsets and the only other one I found that listed the DWL-G630 was Marvell.

Check out this link:
http://marvell.rapla.net/

The page also contains links (scroll down) to similar lists for several other chipsets. Cool!

Any idea if there are drivers out there for the Marvell chipset?
