Why does iTunes 12.1 does not sync new calendar appointments with Outlook 2013?

After updating iTunes to 12.1 64 bit for windows my NEW appointments, contacts and notes are not syncing from Outlook 2013 to my iPhone 5 and iPad Air. Syncing was working fine before I updated to iTunes 12.1. I have disabled all add-ins in Outlook just in case they were the cause of the problem but that hasn't helped either.

Do you manage your contacts with Outlook as well? Then have iTunes import them to your phone?

I posted a problem about that and it appears that there's an issue with iTunes not detecting Outlook at all. My Outlook has several e-mail accounts and they would be listed in iTunes regardless of I sync'd or not. Right now, it's blank. So is my contact list in my iPhone.

I sync notes, contacts and calendar. Just got off the phone again with support. She had me look for the iTunes addin within outlook. Could not find it. She told me that was why I'm unable to sync. She said when I installed itunes, it should have included the addin. Sounds like this is an Apple/Microsoft communication issue.

Anyone know where I can find the addin I need?

I have the same issue as well. I've been holding off on upgrading 12.1 for some time. Finally did it, and now any new appointments will not sync. I have forced the sync, removed iTunes, reinstalled, no luck. The only difference is I'm using Outlook 2010.

All of my sync'ing was being done via the standard sync cable (no Bluetooth, not against a corporate Exchange server).

As I think back to the days of my Palm Pilot, I don't recall this many issues w/ a simple sync operation. One would think, at this point Apple would have this process fairly well ironed out.

Thanks all for sharing your experience. I have finally done the following to carry on syncing:

(1) Uninstalled all Apple services: update, mobile sync bonjour and anything else I could find that was provided by Apple (see Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support

(2) Restored Windows 8.1 to a relatively recent restore point.

(3) The restore also provided me with the previous version of iTunes 12.0.1.26x64 in the Download folder (and not the later iTunes 12.1 version)

(4) I installed this in Program Files (x86) - my first attempt to install this version of iTunes in Program Files did not work.

And I am now able to sync Outlook 2013 with my iPhone/iPad Air.

Also I have unticked the alert me to iTunes update in preferences ... just to be sure that I don't get into this mess again.

Just wondering how long does it take Apple to fix things that they are aware of - or is it a case of working to their next update schedule.

The last file in my download folder is iTunes Version 11.2. I installed it but when I connected my iPhone, it said I needed 11.4 or newer to work with the latest phone update.

Is it possible to get this file. I asked the support folks early in this process if I could use an older version and they told me know. It obviously works if you have done it.

I did notice when I installed the older version, the itunes Outlook Addin showed up in the outlook add-ins. Then when I updated again to the latest itunes version...it disappeared.

The iTunes install also installs the add-ins. I found the older version on my computer - it just happened to be v12.0.1.26x64. Perhaps if you search your computer for iTunes*.* you may have some luck. Some of the older versions are on the Apple website too - check out: Apple - Support - Downloads.

All the best.

I have the same issue with iTunes 12.1. This has happened to me before so now I always download and save a copy of the iTunes installer. When a new version comes out, I save a copy of its installer. If everything works ok, I delete the previous installer version. If not, I can always go back to the previous version which is what I had to do after installing v12.1.

For me, iTunes 12.1.0.71 wouldn't sync on machines running the 64-bit version of Outlook 2010, but did sync for machines running the 32-bit version. Both machines are running Windows 8.1 64-bit. I noticed that "iTunes.exe" installed in the "C:\Program Files\iTunes" folder, instead of the "C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes" which the previous version did (12.0.1.26). Problem was corrected when I reverted back to a previous version of iTunes.

Thank you for the update ocwl. I found a couple of 12.0.1.26 w/ a basic web search. By uninstalling the 12.1 as well as the other apple components in my 'add remove programs', I reinstalled the 12.0, and things are working fine. I did check my Outlook 64-bit, and sure enough the add-in is back. And just as you stated, it installed in the (x86) directory again.

I'm back up and running. Thank you.

Why does iTunes 12.1 does not sync new calendar appointments with Outlook 2013?
