If you can cut 2 GB out of it.
Ciao.
What codec/format is the movie in now? DVD compression drastically reduces file size (at the expense of quality) and of course if you're starting with an HD movie, you'll get reduction in resolution too. So it may well fit. What app are you planning on using to compress/build?

I'm a novice to all this. Am learning as i go along. It is an amateur wedding video that i have editted in imovies then have shared it to itunes thinking it will be easier to burn to a dvd from there but i didnt realize it was too big for the dvds i have bought which are 8.5gb. I want to give all my guests a copy.
Neither iMovie or iTunes will burn movie DVDs. You need to use iDVD, or something like Toast. You can't just drag and drop a movie file onto a DVD and burn it in Finder, either - that will not result in a playable movie DVD.
The process of creating a DVD changes the format of the video and makes the file much smaller. So you may find that actually once you start the process, you will even be able to use regular 4.7GB DVDs. It all depends how long your video is (e.g., half an hour? 2 hours?).

thank you Matt, I don't have iDVD on my Pro book and it looks increasing difficult to get hold of, I will look for toast!
