Can MacBook Pro be booted from iMac

My 2008 15 inch MBP hard drive died

I verified it by putting it in one of external drive holders and that will not read it either. it has been making noise for a while. Back up every week so I am ok.

The replacement HD is already formatted for this computer as I use as an external already.

The screen flashes ? or if I press Option it just stays gray with curser working

Tried other HD's

Checked for cables I may have removed but it is an easy job.

I don't have Disks can I boot from my iMac?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5), 2.44 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB ram

Hello jimicocobop,

To get your MacBook Pro to have an operating system installed you will want to create a Recovery Disk Assistant with a external drive or USB stick. Take a look at the article below to walk you through getting that set up through your iMac so you can then get you MacBook Pro up an running again.

OS X: About Recovery Disk Assistant
