I Tunes freezes when trying to sync my iphone

I Tunes freezes when trying to sync my iphone. with my i Mac I have the latest version of Yosemite installed on my (mid 2011 iMac )and the latest update to my iphone 3 is installed (iOS6.6)

It even freezes when ever the phone is on and within the range of the WiFi connection. The only way I can get I Tunes to work is to turn the phone off completely, so there is no possibility of a connection.

However my Mac Book Air is also on the same WiFi network and the phone synced up beautifully and works fine. I have tried all of the conventional fixes published by Apple to no avail.

Help anyone!!
