Wifi works fine on iPad, iPhone and MacBookPro, but miserably on iMac (27", late 2009)

Hi all,

I've been experiencing a rather annoying ongoing situation with my iMac 27" late 2009 model and the wifi connection. I hope to find some answers here.

We live in a council flat / block apartment with several wifi connection running in the air. Our flat's router is located in the living room, ground floor, where the signal is perfect and all devices download at fairly high speed. The iMac is located in my room, 1st floor of the house, where I often work. Unfortunately the iMac struggles to connect to the internet. Browsing through webpages is a nightmare with it and I'm incline to think that this is a problem caused by the distance router-iMac and the several crossing wifi lines. However, other devices – namely iPhone, iPad and MacBookPro run well (signal is slightly more feeble, but doesn't prevent at all any internet-related activity – browsing through websites, down/uploading files, sending emails and so forth).

Any clue what might cause this rather annoying situation?

Many thanks!

Try the basics first:

Change your router channel number. Most times this works & is all you have to do.

Disconnect & reconnect your modem. unplug it for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in. Do the same for Apple’s routers. Wait for everything to reboot.

System Preferences>Network

Click the Assist Me button.

In the next window that pops up, click the Diagnostic button & do the necessary.

Also, run the Airport Utility app which is located inside the Utilities folder.
