If no success, open Activity Monitor and look for applications using a lot of CPU resources.

Haven't tried an SMC reset (company laptop). Hopefully to be fixed in an updating update? Whatever it is, sounds like it's hard on the machine.

Apr 16, 2015 12:29 PM in response to gazza57by kurt allan,Ok here's the problem: It's 10.10.2 or 10.10.3 uploading your photos to ICloud. Put photo upload on hold (In Photos Preferences) and CPU usage will drop dramatically and the fan will slow down.
