    I have done the following:

    1. opened my bluetooth icon on the macbook and it advises that I have not paired to my iphone
    2. opened the my bluetooth settings on my iPhone
    3. on the macbook my iPhone is shown and on the right is shows "Pair"
    4. I press pair although my iPhone does not show the macbook on the screen
    5. the code number on the macbook then details if this number is shown on the iPhone then press pair
    6. I do as indicated but then the macbook shows not connected as it does on  on the iPhone

please advise what the error is as all other devices are pairing to the mac and the iPhone

Unless you have apps on the Mac and iPhone, an iOS device like an iPhone will only pair to a Mac for sharing the phones internet connection. You have to have the hotspot capability turned on on the phone by the carrier.

iOS device do not natively include the BT profiles that support basics like file transfer.

Thanks sooo much!  I could not find ANYWHERE that the hotspot needed to be on!
