I have, inadvertently, dragged my Downloads Folder from the Dock to the Desktop and it has disappeared. Cannot find it. I would like to find it and restore to the dock. MBP with OS X 10.6.8 Many thanks for any assistance.

I had the same question, and your answer worked, but now when I open the downloads folder, instead of seeing a list I can scroll through, I see a whole screen full of icons. I can, of course, click "open in finder", but that's an extra step I didn't have to do before. There does not appear to be a place where I can select an option for how I want the items displayed.
It's found in the HD/Users/yourusername/Downloads.
Locate it and drag it back to the right side of the Dock.

I answered my own question - the finder help screen said "Control-Click on the stack (the downloads folder), and Voila, there was a place where I could change the display to list.
Dragged Downloads Folder from the Dock to the Desktop and it has disappeared.
