My battery is not charging, it is draining very fast. I've removed the keyboard and the monitor but left the logic board and everything else intact, i soldered a external button to the logic board where there is PWR BTN written on it. Can i reset the SMC using this button or do i have to put back the original keyboard?

If the new power button performs as a power button should (for turning the computer on and off), it will also work for SMC reset.
The power button does perform as it should...
Tried to reset two times- didn't work.Should i try with the original keyboard?

Since you have the keyboard removed. You could unplug the power supply and remove the battery. Then check the battery cable in the Macbook and even unplug it and reseat it . Do the SMC reset and see if it works.

Hi Tony5914 Try clicking on the battery icon while holding down the Option key. This will tell you battery condition. Also see if you can download a battery app. I have battery health monitor for 10.6 ,it's version 1.5. The reason I'm saying this is my daughters Macbook shows a not charging, but with the battery monitor it shows that it is. But at a very slow rate that does not show at the icon or in the profiler.Also my wife's 2006 Macbook was doing this and I replaced the internal battery cable(about $4.00 on Ebay). Depending on your year the internal cable is ether 20 pin or 18 pin.
Battery condition is normal...I have a removable battery...Can someone describe me why can't i reset the SMC, perhaps im doing something wrong?
Did you follow the link I gave you as to how to do it? When you do it by removing battery and power cord and holding down the power button for say 10 seconds, you do not see or hear anything through the Macbook.

Hi Tony. I have one more thing you can try. It's a battery update. It's for OS 10.6.8. If it will not install it means you don't need it. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL788 Then the only things you can do short of replacing the logic board is replace the DC in board or the internal battery cable. These are the cheapest fixes.

None that doesn't require expensive test equipment. It's more a case of buying one and trying it. You could unplug it from the logic board and plug it back in. The same goes for the internal battery cable.

Yes it could be. But you'd have to take it to an apple store to have it checked out as they have better test equipment.
And perhaps i can't reset the SMC also because of the logic board?
