Xserve G5

Question: We are using an old headless G5 Xserve. It has 3-80 Gb storage drives. (OS.10.3 or OS 10.4)

In the past, we have accessed the sever using "Remote Desktop v.2.2"

We purchased a 3Tb Time Capsule.

Can this new "Time Capsule" be connected to the old Xserve?

Also, because all of the workstation computers that we are running are newer Intel based computers we can not use the "Remote Desktop v.2.2" and would have to upgrade to "Remote Desktop v.3.3". Before purchasing the new Remote Desktop v.3.3, can we connect the Time Capsule to the old Xserve and use the Remote Desktop v.3.3 software with the newer workstations to connect to the old Xserve?

Thanks,

-Joe

I'm not sure what you're asking here. The Time Capsule is a combined wireless base station and network-attached storage device. It's typically used to provide wireless access to host systems, and to provide a centralized backup/storage location.

Your XServe doesn't have a wireless interface, so it cannot 'connect' to the Time Capsule over a wireless network, but you're not likely to need this - the Xserve already has wired network connections, so the wireless interface is not needed.

You *can* connect to the Time Capsule over a wired port, but you won't be able to use Time Machine to automatically back up to it because 10.3.x doesn't support Time Machine. You should (I think) be able to mount the drive manually and access it like any other network-attached storage device, but you'd need something else to manage backing up your Xserve, if that's your goal.

As for ARD, the latest ARD server version requires ARD 3.x on the client. Since your Xserve has the older version you are at risk of losing ARD access to your server.
