Q: Failed User Launch Agents

New to Apple Support Community; sorry if posted in the wrong place or if done other dumb things...

Don't know really what i have done wrong, but after my iMac (20-inch, Mid 2007) with OS X 10.10.2 and 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM got rather slow, i used EtreCheck and removed a number of red-coloured UserLaunchAgents and things seem to get better.

With the following exceptions:

User Launch Agents: ℹ️

    [failed]    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-@me.com-SharedServices.Agent.plist [Click for details]

    [failed]    com.apple.CSConfigDotMacCert-rob@franssen.fr-SharedServices.Agent.plist [Click for details]

    [failed]    com.apple.SafariBookmarksSyncer.plist [Click for details]

Not sure what those items are doing, but i am under the impression that i'm going to need them to do better then shown.

Unfortunately i don't have a clue how to achieve this and would appreciate help

To complete relevant info, please find the entire Etrecheck report below

Check Applications -> Utilities -> Console     for messages for related to these agents.

Also Yosemite will kill off background daemons if it runs low on RAM because of other application demands.  You only have 4GB of RAM which is rather low in the Yosemite world.

The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

    Hi Bob and Eric,

The response to my question and everything i have read elsewhere seems to indicate a memory-shortage,

After a good night sleep, i came to the conclusion that i have 2 options:

    1. One way or the other make my iMac 'behave' under Yosemite. By increasing memory from 4 to 6 GB, as Eric suggested (forgetting about the approx. $ 100 i only paid recently to increase from 2 to 4 GB), figure out which apps not to run at boot, thinking about Yosemite-features i really don't need, etc., etc.

    2. Downgrade from Yosemite to Lion (?) with a lot of work to restore all personal files from TimeMachine and/or Dropbox but in the end having a machine which runs smooth and easy as it (nearly) always has done.

The iMac was my first Apple-computer and i still like it a lot; upgrading to Yosemite probably was a mistake and asking to much from the old - but reliable - horse. The iMac is my 'main-computer' for the majority of my computer-work when at home; a 13 inch aluminium MacBook from end of 2008 and equally with 4 GB seems to have less problems and can act as a safety net.

If any of you two has misgivings about my ideas, i would like to know.

(for your info: i'm still a noob, but the first computer i had to use for my work in 1968 was an IBM 360)

    Anyhow, thanks a lot!

If any of you two has misgivings about my ideas, i would like to know.

I think it might be wise to save your money and plan on a replacement Mac.  Even a low end Mac mini would out perform the iMac and Macbook.  But it is not my job to spend your money.

If you can install Lion, it might be the better performance solution.  Should not cost you anything except time, and extend the usefulness of your Macs for awhile.

If you really want to keep this hardware in service AND have newer software, then max'ing out the RAM and replacing the hard disk with an SSD is how you can get reasonable performance.  But RAM and an SSD are going to add up to money that could be better put into a new Mac.  And besides, "Real-Soon-Now" Apple is going to stop supporting those Mac models and then newer OS releases will not install on them.

Again, I do not want to spend your money.

(for your info: i'm still a noob, but the first computer i had to use for my work in 1968 was an IBM 360)

Gee that is even before my first computer (a PDP-8 in '71; well there was the Burroughs Computer in the University basement where I submitted my card desks, and a printout came back; the PDP-8 belonged to the University too, but at least I got to touch it; That lead to a job a UNIVAC where I got to touch the UNIVAC equivalent of the IBM 360).

    Hi Bob,

Nice to see that you are caring about my money :-) thank you. On the one hand, money nowadays isn't coming in with truckloads (you may have guessed that i am retired) and on the other hand, dumping a perfectly good (Okay, okay, i heard what you said) computer isn't my style. But i prefer spending a bit (?) more money for a new and capable Mac than messing around with bits and peaces.

Anyhow, your remarks give me some ideas to chew on and as such they are highly appreciated! Maybe Santa Claus?

I was using the IBM 360 during my studies to write a program in Fortran to calculate the moments of inertia of large electric motors made by Oerlicon in Zürich - Switzerland; and that is the only programming i ever did. As an electrical engineer, i ended my career as a VC... things may change.

Again, thanks a lot and all the best.

    Rob

I was an EE student (even got the degree), but I was working for UNIVAC as a programmer before I even graduated (Blue Bell, PA - UNIVAC Headquarters).  It wasn't until my senior year that I even figured out what those imaginary numbers were good for (keeping track of reverse inductance current in electrical transmission lines as large motors are turned off and the magnetic field collapses; big problem for electric companies).  Until then it as all just a pain.
