Q: iMac 27" Mid 2011 external monitors no longer supported

I have had an external ASUS 24" display connected to my iMac 27" Mid 2011 for a long time.

I used a MiniDVI to VGA adaptor plugged into my Thunderbolt ports to connect.

Just recently the display started reporting that it was not getting any signal.

To check it wasn't something at the display end I purchased a MiniDVI to HDMI cable which also gets no signal.

Switching to the other Thunderbolt port also gets no signal.

I checked out the display on my wife's Macbook Pro, The VGA adaptor worked but not the HDMI, so the HDMI cable may be a dud.

So that leaves me with a couple of options.

1. The Thunderbolt Ports/Chips have failed

2. The iMac internal Graphics Card has partly failed. The iMac display works perfectly, just no external display connected via the Thunderbolt ports.

Anyone with any technical background able to identify which and what I can do about it?

Thanks

Peter
