Two versions of iLife and iWork alongside. Can damage the system?

MacBook Pro mid.2012, the current OS is 10.9.5, originally came with 10.7.4. The versions of these two packages that were bundled in Lion were pushed to respective folders with the upgrade to Mavericks. Since my Mac was acknowledged of having being eligible for participation in up-to-date Program, I got full rights to have '13 versions alongside older ones that Apple kept for the users that had had docs and projects created using prior versions (sorry for such an intro, just for clarification and time saving). Before clean install I had those folders but after that they got wiped out. It turned out that not only I was able to redownload the older iWork&iLife'13 versions but unfortunately iLife'13 came this time without Garage Band 10.0.2 that I wanted to restore to, all I'm left with is the current version optimized for Yosemite. Does that mean I can't reacquire it never ever as well as those older versions? 😟 😟 It's the first question.

The second one is tied up with the first one: prior to clean install I used to have serious issue with launching these apps, especially simultaneously, and in Safe Boot while opening both GB versions I had the annoying message popping up that a driver wasn't found or smth. Now I'm think of whether that Apple did the right decision to keep the older and the newer iLife/iWork apps together and weren't they involved in such unstable and creepy functionality that eventually led to a complete disorder?

Furthermore, the version of iTunes that I had before downgraded from 11.4 to 11.3.1. The third question: could I revert back to 11.4?

Posted this in another thread but to no avail. Hope somebody clarifies this for me.

Kindest regards,

I.S.

As far as your older versions of iLife and iWorks '09, you can either restore them from a back up prior to when you upgraded to Mavericks or Yosemite or reinstall OS X Lion or Mountain Lion to an external drive. Then from that OS open the App Store and you will see a message asking you if you want to download the older version. I've done this a few times since iWorks apps were updated when Mavericks came out. Afterwards, I saved the older apps to an external drive so I wouldn't have to do this again.

With your 2nd question, just open the iWorks or iLife file with whatever version of that app you want to use. Don't try opening it with BOTH versions of the app. For example, if I'm in Mavericks or Yosemite, I use the iWorks '09 (older) version of Pages to open those files and work in them. This way I know I will always be able to open those files if I downgrade OS X.

You can get iTunes 11.4 from this Apple Downloads page.

Good luck!

The only way I know how to download those is to have an earlier version installed or directly from the App Store. Or try the Apple Software Download page. Otherwise, I would not trust non-Apple sites or media.

Frankly, Apple ****** me off with its strong unwillingness to let its customers to make their own choice of downgrading.

Yeah I agree. I still run Mountain Lion because of this and have a 2nd partition for the newer OS when it comes out (Mavericks or Yosemite) just to test those out.

Oh, if you could reveal where I could download Garage Band 10.0.2......not talking about earlier versions of it and iMovie...😟

They do, all you had to do was backup your system before replacing it, I take it you did not take advantage of the facility provided and now it is going to be difficult. How is that Apples fault, it was your choice.

You know, the effectiveness of down/up -grade system should justify itself regardless of private choices on part of the loyal customers that legally obtain a company's software. There might be a number of force majeure situations that simply can't be overseen. If a customer for some reasons could not "take advantage of the facility provided", then some safety net should be provided not to make "it's going to be difficult".

Kindest regards,
