Q: Yosemite on SSD wont boot and wont go in safe or recovery mode

Two days ago I upgraded my MacBook Pro to Yosemite.

The Problem: Today, My MacBook Pro won”t boot the OS. I have my OS on an SSD with a trim enabler. I”ve tried to boot in the safe mode, recovery mode - wont work. Made an USB  drive with Mavericks and tried to do a fresh install on the SSD - can”t do it ! After I select the USB drive at the start, the sistem is loading for 30 seconds - 1 minute, and after that I get a blue screen !!! Today I was able to boot the SSD after presing option button at the start, but that happend only once. After that - no luck.

Any ideas on what should I do?

PS. At one moment before this happend I got my desktop all pixeleted, like it was an graphic card fault, I”ve restarted the MacBook and all this „fun” started? Any ideas?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

Take a look at this post from the developer of Trim Enabler. It addresses issues of using Trim utilities in Yosemite. There may be some solution for you with your issue.

Ok. You mentioned you have OS X Mavericks on a USB drive. Is it the installer or an installed version of OS X Mavericks that you can boot into? We need to blow away your Yosemite partition and it may require some Terminal commands because your partition may have been converted to CoreStorage (Logical Volume Group) when you installed Yosemite. It also may have been encrypted with FileVault during install.

Boot from your OS X Mavericks USB installer. At the OS X Utilities menu select Terminal from the Utilities menu bar option. In Terminal, type diskutil cs list. If you do have a Logical Volume Group (LVG) that command will give you lines of its make up. Look for something that says Revertible: and you should see either Yes or No and if No, something in parenthesis that says (Locked or encrypted require unencryption) or something to that affect.

If the diskutil cs list comes back with something saying no corestorage volume found or similar to this, then you have no LVG.

    Let me know.

Shoot, you said you can't boot from the USB drive without getting a blue screen. Sorry.

Do you have another Mac that you can use either a Firewire cable or Thunderbolt cable to connect the two? If so, you could put your MBP in Target Disk Mode by restarting it and holding the 'T' key.

Ok. Is your MBP newer than 2011? If so, you can use Internet Recovery by making sure you have an Internet connection and restarting while pressing the Command+Option+R keys until you see a spinning globe. This will take a few minutes to boot to Apple's server and their Recovery system so you can see an OS X Utilities menu. Try this anyway to see if it works.

Usually you would see the Apple logo then a spinning cog wheel until that stops and you get to the OS X Utilities menu. Did you wait long enough? It can take 5 or more minutes to load depending on your Internet connection. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas since you can't boot using the hard drive's Recovery HD, boot using an external USB installer of OS X Mavericks and can't get into Internet Recovery.

All I can think of is try to schedule a Genius Bar appointment at a nearby Apple Store and get their help. Assuming a store is close by.

Just tried the internet recovery again. I did get the spinning cog wheel, after that the Mac Book just got stuck on a grey screen... I am out of ideas too... the bad thing is that in Moldova, the country I live in, we don”t have Apple Store...
