Thanks for the question. It sounds like you are experiencing some issues opening iPhoto in OS X Yosemite. Let’s see if we can isolate these issues further by using the steps in this article:

Additionally, you can attempt to rebuild the iPhoto Library:

Thanks very much for responding. Okay I logged in as another user and same problem. So I next went on to the safari and logged into my iCloud account and ffor some reason none of my photos are in my cloud account. I am not so familiar with any of this tech at all but I thought the idea of having iCloud was that everything I had on my mac was backed up there ? Is that not the case then ?
So I also have a slim hard drive but for some reason I cannot overwrite the old data with the new so I do not want to perform any sort of re-build until I Know my pics are located somewhere. Can you help at all ? Desperate !
