Q: iMac, Bootcamp, Windows 8.1, Fusion Drive - not working

Hey there,

as many other here I habe problems installing Windows 8.1 on my iMac (late 2013) with a 3TB Fusion Drive.

I'm playing around with that installation about 3 days or so.

Even got a problem where I couldn't delete  partition and suddenly got a second logical volume group

Somehow I could fix that.

I tried to install it with the help of Threads which are already opened here but had no success.

I just want a plain Windows version, not on that SSD part of my Fusion Drive, just about 500GB of Windows

And maybe there is a chance without reinstalling Yosemite?

Hopefully you can help me through that process.

And many thanks in advance, here is the output of my disk:

Does Bootcamp Assistant let you partition and start the Windows Installer?

Can you post the output of

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk1

It may also be beneficial to download GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/).

    Hey,

    jep Bootcamp Assistant works.

Then it normally starts into Windows Installer (EFI) when I try to install by clicking my partition and then "OK" it says, that no partition was found, or something like that.

Since I do not see BC partition on the disks, can you start BCA and create a partition for Windows? You can have a terminal open and post the output when the BCA completes partitioning.

This does not look correct. GPT4 seems to be beyond the 2TB boundary. Was this partition been created using Bootcamp Assistant?

Yep it was created with BootCamp and this seems to be the problem right?

And now when I get to install Windows, mark the partition and say OK, it says that the partition can't be found - or so.

I'm playing around with this problem a while now and couldn't find a solution.

In Console window, at the top right corner (where the magnifying glass is located) enter "boot" and search. Try "disk" as well.

BCA is not supposed to create this structure. It should be creating SSD (EFI,OSX-CoreStorage,Boot), HDD(EFI,OSX-CS,Windows,OSX-CS,RecoveryHD). Windows should be within the 2TB range?

The command that it should use is (undocumented by Apple Engineers)

    diskutil cs resizeStack

    Usage:  diskutil coreStorage resizeStack

            lvUUID|MountPoint|DiskIdentifier|DeviceNode [pvUUID] size

            [part1Format part1Name part1Size part2Format part2Name part2Size

             part3Format part3Name part3Size ...]

Resize both a logical volume and one of its underlying physical volumes in a

single operation. A single physical volume is always chosen for the underlying

shrink or grow, even if the logical volume's logical volume group is backed by

more than one physical volume. If you do not specify a particular physical

volume, then one is chosen for you. Note that if this is a grow operation,

this verb is limited by the physical volume's partition's room to grow.

Specifying zero as the size asks for an "automatic" grow-to-fill operation.

If this is a shrink operation, you can optionally request that new partitions

be created in the newly-formed free space gap in the partition map.

Again, note that this only resizes one of the underlying physical volumes; if

you need more sophistication in managing your topology, you should use the

separate physical and logical volume resize verbs.

    Example: diskutil coreStorage resizeStack

             11111111-2222-3333-4444-555555555555 10g JHFS+ New 1g

If you cannot make BCA behave, using this (and other CS commands) is an option.
