One more issue with Acrobat Pro 9.5.5 and Yosemite: The bookmarks pane does not display bookmarks the same as it did in OS 10.8. The bookmark icon is inset from the left side of the pane by an inch, and the bookmarks themselves are spaced quite widely, around 1.5 inch on this full HD monitor. As a result, a document with more than seven bookmarks will have them run off the bottom of the pane. Wonder if anyone else also observes this and if they have found a means to fix it.
Today, I deleted my Acrobat 9.5.5 installation on this Mac Pro (Yosemite 10.10.5) and reinstalled it from the DVD. It took the same process as above (all the incremental updates from the original 9.0), and I checked the bookmark behavior with each update. As noted by others, you must do the 9.1 update before you can open Acrobat and enter your key, and I saw the wide spaced bookmark problem immediately with 9.1. It did not change with any of the updates.
One further bit of information for those needing to load the updates. You must change your Security and Privacy System Preference to allow apps downloaded from Anywhere for these to run, or you will get a failure message. Be sure to reset it once you are finished.
click the link to the Adobe FTP site, and select connect as guest: Acrobat Pro 9 updates
you will need to install each incremental update in order, the last version was 9.5.5
Simplest thing to do here is uninstall Acrobat using the Adobe uninstaller application, then re-install using the original instal file then update to the next version until it is completely uptodate.
Thanks again Gary. After a long series of incremental downloads, I am at v. 9.5.5
Thanks so much Gary!
I only had to install one update, then it opened, and did the auto install updates the rest of the way to 9.5.5 and all is working.
Hello Gary,
Thank you for your post and direction, you fixed my problem.
Thank you, Gary! You are awesome. I can't tell you how many hours I spent installing/uninstalling and reading other posts about how to get Acrobat Pro 9 to work in Yosemite. I am using CS4, installed the first level incremental update from the ftp site you posted and boom, I was finally able to get into Acrobat without a hitch!
The posts above were also very helpful to me. First of all, the URL for the FTP site allowed me to find the updates. Since I had loaded 9.0.0 from the install disc, there was no "Check for Updates" in the Help menu. I have two SSDs in this 2009 MacPro, one with 10.8.5 and the other with 10.10.5, and I decided to start updating the Acrobat installation on 10.8 first. The FTP site for Macs is: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/mac/9.x
Go to FTP site, and log in as Guest. I downloaded several of the incremental updates and started installing them. Only when I reached around 9.2 did the "Check for Updates" appear in the Acrobat Help Menu. When I had loaded 9.3.0, I decided to use the built-in updater, and it said 9.5.5 was available, and did I want to install it? I agreed, and it took perhaps two hours to download (over 2 mbps WiFi) the update which installed itself just fine. I was fully updated to 9.5.5.
This evening, I decided to try the same on Yosemite. My laptop on which I had installed Yosemite as an update had Acrobat 9.0.0 on it, and Acrobat would not start afterwards. With some doubt, I loaded Acrobat from the install disc on this MacPro. It loaded successfully but would not start, and I could not enter my User Key. However, once I had installed 9.1, it did actually start and asked for my Key. I tested Acrobat periodically as I installed the incremental updates, and all was well. Just a few minutes ago, I finished downloading and installing all the incremental updates and had 9.5.5 on this machine, too.
Without the help provided above, this would have been impossible, and I thank you all. I thought a bit more "blow-by-blow" might be useful to someone else who reads this thread.
