Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.2, my Lexmark X2650 scanner/printer doesn't work. (It's out of ink and I haven't used it as a printer for years, so I don't know if the printing function is also not working.) When I try to scan something, I just get this message: "The scan operation is canceled." I have the latest driver for this device. Any suggestions?

This worked perfectly for me. I'm running Sierra 10.12.6.
If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.

I'm having precisely the same issue with a Lexmark x2670 on 10.10.2
It throws "The scan operation is canceled" error every time I try a Scan or an Overview Scan.
I've restarted, reset the scanner, unplugged the scanner's power supply, and I reset the printing system, no change.
What scanning software are you using?
Where can I find that information?
Applications folder most likely. Finder>Applications. The one I use is called MP Navigator. I have a Canon printer. I would imagine there is a Lexmark printer application.
Does Lexmark have current drivers for these scanners? Neither of these models is shown on OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download - Apple Support
If you're unsure you can go to the Lexmark site and download the most recent software for your unit. I just went to their site and it was fairly straight forward.
According to Lexmark's website, the latest supported OS for this printer/scanner is 10.9.x, but I've been using Yosemite for a while and the scanner worked until I updated to 10.10.2.
I don't see where the scanning software is in the app folder. Obviously, it must be there.
It might be in the Utilities folder. You could try to download and install the newest driver and see if that works. If not try to contact Lexmark Support.

I contacted Lexmark and was told that updated installation software for OS 10.10.2 may be available for my scanner by the end of February. You may wish to check the Lexmark website at that time for your model, too.
Lexmark just told me moments ago (March 23, 2015) that there will not be a 10.10 driver issued for my X2650 and that I need to buy a new printer. The 2013 10.9 driver is the end of the line. Then they offered me, as a "Prestige" customer, 30% off a new unit. Class act that was.
