Mac won't let me change from static to DHCP

My MacBook Air running Yosemite will not let me switch from a static IP address to a DHCP IP address on the WiFi connection. When I select DHCP from the drop down for IPv4 on the TCP/IP menu, it will show the address I previously assigned as static in the boxes. I then tried to select renew lease and it did not change the addresses. My home network uses a different addressing scheme as the iPhone tethering network so it will not let me tether to my iPhone or connect to my work network.

HELP!

MacBook Air (13-inch Mid 2012), OS X Yosemite (10.10.2), null

OK, I figured out how to fix this. I followed the tutorial at http://osxdaily.com/2014/10/25/fix-wi-fi-problems-os-x-yosemite/ and managed to reset my network preferences. I then tried to set a static IP again and the same thing happened. How do I change my IP address to static then change it back to DHCP without following these steps every time. Am I missing something?

For me (Macbook Air mid 2012 - OS X 10.10.2 ... clean installed !!!), the OSXDAILY tutorial does not work ...

I can connect my MBA to my wifi network (Airport) but, using DHCP (IPV4), my interface does not get an IP (V4) from the routeur. It does get an IP V6 and then i can only access google.com or facebook.com website !

I must configure the IP (V4) manually !?

Oddly, the problem suddenly appeared without doing anything. The day before i noticed the problem, the connection was just fine. *** !?!
