If you have an AirPrint capable printer, the ability to print is built into the iPad.

    About AirPrint - Apple Support

There are other printing apps available in the App Store that work with other non AirPrint printers.

Some wireless printers will also have their own work arounds. Like maybe an app or some sort of cloud printing (my Kodak printer used to say it'd work with google docs but I never explored it)

There is no support for plugging the ipad into a printer. So you need a wireless one.

Like said above, if it's air print enabled, it works natively, if now you have to do a bit more digging to make it work.

Yeah there are other apps on the App Store. One of the best printing apps (if you have a HP printer) is the HP ePrint app. You can print from the cloud or you can print your photos from the camera roll.
