Hi,

If that AIM Account happens to be an Apple ID.

For Instance:

An @mac.com name is an Apple ID and in Mountain Lion, Maverick and Yosemite it also works as an AIM Screen Name.

AS this was the way iChat worked before it was made into Messages with the adding of the iMessages account what you said may work.

It is also true for iCloud linked @me.com IDs and @iCloud.com IDs (they work as AIM IDs as well as Apple IDs for iMessages)

However if you mean you have an @AIM.com or @AOL.com then it might be an Apple ID as any other email can be registered.

If you have already done this and it IS your Apple ID it can be used in Messages as the iMessages ID.

Generally speaking though most people who have got some form of AIM Screen Name don't have an email linked to the at AIM/AOL and it is not their Apple ID.

HI,

So this Apple ID is not in the Messages app > Preferences > Accounts > iMessages account settings ?

(although it shows in the list on the left as An AIM Account)

Have you tried Adding it ?
