Q: iTunes Error 7 (Windows error 193)

First I know there are multiple threads on this.

I am running W7 64-bit. Every time I try to install ITune I get an Error 7 (Windows error 193) upon completion ( and another pop up that says 'iTunes helper was not installed'). During the installation process I get a message that  Apple Mobile Device Service was unable to start. To which I select 'Ignore'

Having read various threads on my problem I have

1) Gone to Windows Update and checked I have the latest updates.

2) Ensured I have the latest .NET Framework ( 4.5.2)

3) Uninstalled all Apple S/ware ( in the order recommended) except Safari. I also deleted any remaining Folders in Program Data, Program Files & Program Files (x86)

4) Run scan disc

5) Tried installs, after repeating (3) with my anti-virus s/ware switched off but I still get the same failure.

Any other suggestions?

Oh, and I also select 'Run as Administrator for the installation

Windows 7

For those who updated iTunes and displaying the error "Windows error 193 or similar," a way to still use the iTunes download the 11.1.3.8 version of iTunes and install. Before installing something must be done:

    * Step 1 - Uninstall the following programs:

    1) Apple Software Update

    2) Bonjour

    3) iTunes.

    Step 2 - Install version iTunes 11.1.3.8

If it shows the error "iTunes Library.itl" the solution is simple. Only delete the file in the C: \ Users \ Name \ Music \ iTunes called iTunes Library.itl.

Note: When you open the older version will ask if you want to update. Do not upgrade because it will give the same error in the update.

It is the hint. Could not say it is a solution, but a way to take advantage of the program for a while and wait for an Apple solution. Sincerely Ricardo.

I have the EXACT experience as VC10. I tried to install the old version as rickbrasil stated, same result, the loading process gets "stuck" and wont finish.

THIS is what i have done 6 times now to no avail.

    3) Uninstalled all Apple S/ware ( in the order recommended). I also deleted any remaining Folders in Program Data, Program Files & Program Files (x86)

    4) Removed Quick Time also.

    5) Tried installs, after repeating (6) with my anti-virus s/ware switched off but I still get the same failure.

    Any other suggestions?

yes, rebooted between 4 and 5 every time. 4 of the 6 attempts to reinstall it got "stuck" showing the status of the install.  Twice it got done, but got same error code 7 on attempt to open.

I have windows 7 64bit. I tried repeatedly install, reinstall. I could not get it to work for the life of me. I gave up uninstalled everything and downloaded the last trusty blue version. I am happy now.

Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates includes steps needed to remove all the components of previous iTunes installations as well as links to the installers for version 12.0.

I finally got iTunes 11.1.3.8 to install by uninstalling everything listed above - rebooting where necessary and then going into the registery and removing

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDlls] "C:\\Program Files\\iPod\\bin\\iPodService.exe"=dword:80000000

before installation of 11.1.3.8. (don't reboot after removal)

I still couldn't  get the latest version of iTunes to install after removing that registery key.

***IF YOU TRY THIS TIP BACK UP THE REGISTERY FIRST***

I got way into the registry as above indicates and found no iPod\\bin\\iPodService.exe"=dword:80000000 file.

    grrrr

I am going to try this now http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall and try again to load an older version of itunes

    EDIT.......

well, it found no issues to fix. Maybe i will hold off on the install and keep searching. Anyone else?  thx

Strip iTunes and all Apple components out as shown in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates, then install the alternate or older build as desired.

I have already done all those steps several times. Just tried to install version 11 and it got "stuck" again during install. It shows 'status' with the green bar running beneath it fro an hour without the green bar advancing forward at all.   This is my 7th or 8th attempt after following all the steps exactly and looking for the files to delete etc......If i ever get this installed , I will NEVER update itunes again. ha

Try the advice in the second paragraph of Install missing components. Sometimes this approach works when the regular install doesn't.

http://www.oldapps.com/itunes.php seems to have most iTunes installers to and including 11.4.
