MacBook pro slow, new hard drive ordered, clean up old?

macbook pro suddenly slow. Was advised hard drive is failing. Ordered a new one but was advised not to use backup as it stands b/c has crap on in. What is the crap and how do I get rid of it. Etrecheck report below:
