Q: Disk0s4 After Yosemite installation

Hi Loner T

I have read the thread you provided and it seems i have seen it before also. To be honest, if there's a fix that's great, however id like to do it without having to re install windows as i don't have my CD image anymore, i hope you have come across cases where this is possible?

It does look like from the fixes at least that my data and the windows OS are there its just remapping them i mean the files and Windows 7 itself haven't just vanished!

Also i would need some step by step instructions with your direct intervention as i don't understand a lot of the stuff in the instructions you have been giving to people, i mean i an execute based on your instructions but i am not an expert in the Mac OS. Can i ask if you are based in the US just thinking about the time difference involved as we try to resolve this.

I am very relived to see that there is at least a fix for this stupid stupid bug, as far as i am concerned a partition means exactly that, and installing a Mac OS update would not affect a partition that has nothing to do with Mac OS.

Anyway, your help in the process is appreciated.

Your Gap + GPT4 adds up to about 185GB, it is roughly 371367184 sectors. I suggest looking at the MS Data partitions of size 371365881.

There are two entries that need to be filled in.

GPT 3 StartGPT 3 SizeGPT 3 EndNTFS StartSector OffsetNTFS SizeNTFS End
    117597136126953611886667200371365881371365881

If you Continue, it should give you a list of the partitions it found. It will give you a menu at the bottom of the screen which will have an option with 'P -List Files'.

    Here is an updated table.

GPT 3 StartGPT 3 SizeGPT 3 EndNTFS StartSector OffsetNTFS SizeNTFS End
    11759713612695361188666721188679681296371365881490233849

The triplet you have is a start/end/size triplet. You need to verify the Start and Size as specified below. If you see any error messages, please stop and post back.

You need to use the following steps. If you see any error messages during the following steps, please stop and post back here with the error message. The following steps have values from your Testdisk output (and you can verify) in Steps 7 and 8.

    Rebuild GPT4 using start/end offsets

    Sudo gdisk /dev/rdisk0

P  (print the full list of parts)

    D  (delete)

    4  (part 4)

    N  (new part)

    4   (part 4)

118867968 offset in bytes  (start point for Bootcamp part)

+371365881  (Size offset as opposed to End offset)

    0700     (Windows part type)

P           (print list of all parts just to see what changes will be made)

    W         (Write the new GPT)

Y           (Yes! really write the new GPT)

This will delete and re-write the GPT partition info for /dev/disk0s4.

Rebuild MBR to match the new GPT information thus resetting the Hybrid MBR.

Use defaults for other questions (for example Enter an MBR hex code (default AF): AF).

    Sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

    P  (Print list of parts)

    R   (Recover)

    H (chooses Hybrid)

Partitions numbers to be hybridized: 2 3 4

    Y (Good for GRUB question)

    N (part 2 boot flag)

    N (part 3 boot flag)

Y  (part 4 boot flag make NTFS bootable partition)

    W  (Write the new MBR)

Y    (Yes! write the new MBR)

    Reboot

Test 1 - Does Bootcamp Volume show up in Finder?

Test 2 - Can you see files in Bootcamp Volume?

Test 3 - Can you select Bootcamp in System Preferences -> Startup Disk?

Test 4 - If Test 3 is successful, select Bootcamp and Click Restart

If you see a hanging underline cursor at the top left on a black screen, and it does not proceed further, you may need Windows Startup Repair or a tool called EasyBCD.

    hi Loner

    well i followed your steps

i can now see the bootcamp drive in the finder and the disk is called bootcamp in disk utitlty. I can view the files in the Finder also.

However when i hold the option key my Recovery HD is missing, and indeed i do get a blinking underline cursor and then the Windows loading screen, however it hangs at the windows loading screen and doesnt go further, when i ran the windows start up repiar it didnt find any errors.

    1. Do you see a spinning globe when you hold Command+R and power up?

    2. Do you have any third-party NTFS software?

    3. Since you have the ability to read NTFS partition, you can look at BOOT Logs?

    4. Can you boot Windows in Safe Mode? If yes, enable boot logging and see if there are any driver issues?

    5. There is not much at the OS X level that you now need.
