'Whats App web' email virus trojan sends to all Gmail address book

No, nothing's closed off to being scammed by a phishing email, which is basically what's happened here. Never click links in emails unless you can be totally sure of the email's origins.

How could you tell that the virus was sent out from your wife's email? I accidentally pressed the button and I think I avoided it by closing the window quickly, but am not sure. Did you see them in her sent messages or did people notify you?

Most of the messages sent out were bouncing as spam and also looking in Gmail Sent Items it listed the 600+ Contacts it mailed itself to. They were her Gmail address book, not Apple Contacts.

What caught her out was that she has What's App on her phone and also that it came from a friend.

No. This is just a phishing attack, and if you have changed the password on the affected account, you should be fine.

Hi. I had this too and I clicked on my iPhone before I had thought it through. Easy mistake. My query is that my gmail account through which I got the phishing request has a 2-step security process requiring me to enter a 6 digit code before I can get into my own gmails. Different each time and I know, a bit of a pain. However, I'm thinking that this additional security bind might actually have saved me? Am I right? I'll change my password anyway but I'm wondering if this 2-step security thing with Gmail is a good thing after all. Please could somebody advise..

2-factor authentication is always more secure, even if it is a bit of a pain. I believe that you are right, and this saved your account from being hijacked.

I have had the same problem. I didn't realise it at first and so continued sending emails as normal; but i think a maximum quota must have been reached because at some point it simply stopped allowing my to send anything. I have changed my password but I still cannot send emails from my Mail on my macbook, and the emails in the Outbox are still there. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

You would need to ask your e-mail provider about that.
